Press release: DEHN opens new site in Mühlhausen

Construction costs of 35 million euros and a floor space of more than 21,000 square metres – DEHN‘s new site in Mühlhausen is currently the biggest single investment in the company’s history. This big investment demonstrates DEHN’s clear commitment to the Neumarkt region and is a big step towards intensifying the company’s international activities.

On Monday, 27 January 2014, the surge protection, lightning protection and safety equipment expert DEHN officially opened its new site in Mühlhausen. In a ceremony attended by the Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann, State Secretary Albert Füracker, District Administrator Albert Löhner and Mühlhausen’s mayor Dr. Martin Hundsdorfer, the logistics building for handling protective devices made in Germany covering an area of more than 21,000 square metres went into operations. “With an investment of more than 35 million euros, we do not only address the worldwide growing demand for our products, this big investment in Mühlhausen also demonstrates our clear commitment to the Neumarkt region.“, Dr. Philipp Dehn, Managing Partner at DEHN, says in his opening speech.

The new building of the family owned company is 151 metres long, 141 metres wide and up to 20 metres high. This large project is DEHN‘s logical answer to its growing international activities. The new site houses automated high rack and small-parts warehouses and the incoming goods, commissioning and shipping department. Apart from the logistics department, the receiving inspection and parts of the production and final assembly of lightning protection components are integrated in this new building.
The in-house resources of the traditional site in Neumarkt, which is located about 12 km from Mühlhausen, were stretched to their limit and parts of the logistics department already had to be relocated since DEHN has grown a lot over the last years. Over the last 6 years, almost 300 new jobs were created in Neumarkt alone and another 100 worldwide.

In addition to opening the second DEHN site, DEHN took another important step – the introduction of the corporate software SAP to be able to flexibly meet new requirements and market developments in the future, optimally address customers‘ needs, save resources and optimise the distribution of manpower. SAP is an internationally applicable and scalable ERP system for the future since it can be adapted to new requirements and is globally accepted. This is decisive for the company’s success. DEHN is successfully using the SAP system since 2 January 2014.

“DEHN prepares for the future – based on courage to try new things and stability, enthusiasm and grip on reality, visions and innovations. Our new site in Mühlhausen and the introduction of the corporate software SAP are essential for the further growth of our company and open up new perspectives“, Dr. Philipp Dehn explains.
