DEHNcube – Ready-to-install surge arrester for PV systems

DEHNcube YPV SCI – The new surge arrester from the globally active lightning and surge protection expert DEHN reliably protects the d.c. side of photovoltaic systems from surges caused by lightning interference. This new concept for the first time combines a number of benefits for PV systems in a single device. The type 2 surge protective device with IP65 degree of protection houses a tried and tested Y circuit with patented SCI technology and takes up little space. It is the first type 2 d.c. surge protective device for PV systems to be installed outside of enclosures and is thus ideally suited for protecting string inverters. DEHNcube with IP65 degree of protection is a simple solution for retrofitting surge protective devices into PV systems.

DEHNcube YPV SCI is a compact arrester for the d.c. side of PV systems and has a nominal discharge current In of 12.5 kA (8/20 μs). The tried and tested SCI technology with a combined disconnection and short-circuiting device is the core of DEHNcube. In case of overload, safe electrical isolation and extinction of the d.c. switching arc is ensured by a switching concept with integrated fuse in the short-circuit path which is specifically designed for PV systems.

DEHNcube meets the requirements of the prTS 50539-12 technical specification and is tested to the EN 50539 product standard. It has a short-circuit rating Iscpv of 1000 A d.c., is ready to install and available with connecting cable (accessory). DEHN offers versions for one or two MPP trackers.

Due to the compact dimensions of the enclosure, DEHNcube can be flexibly installed in the vicinity of the inverter and is thus a cost-effective solution for protecting the inverter and the PV modules. Designed as a prewired box with IP65 degree of protection, it can be easily retrofitted. Thus, existing PV systems can be effectively protected against surges with minimal effort.

The spring-loaded terminals allow easy and fast connection without tools. The integrated pressure compensating element with an air-permeable and water-tight membrane prevents condensation.

The device houses an operating state / fault indication which immediately shows the operating state of the arrester.
