InnoTrans 2022: Protect railway infrastructure with DEHN

In order for rail technology to work reliably, many highly sensitive electrical and electronic systems must do so too. The continuous availability of these systems is at risk, however. Lightning strikes or electromagnetic interference fields damage or destroy conductors, control devices, modules or computer systems. Lightning currents and surges can thus quickly cause costly downtimes and disruptions. Train delays, a lot of extra hassle and extremely high costs are the consequence. Comprehensive lightning and surge protection is therefore an essential component in rendering installations and systems safer and more reliable, and thus more efficient. DEHN is presenting its comprehensive portfolio for this industry at this year's InnoTrans from 20 to 23 September in Berlin.

InnoTrans 2022

Whether it is lightning and surge protection for electronic and digital interlockings, for level crossing protection systems or point heaters: DEHN protects railway infrastructure from lightning currents and overvoltages. One example is the compact and modular BLITZDUCTORconnect combined arrester, designed to protect signalling and control systems and telecommunication systems. It ensures fast signal and data transmission and thus maximum availability of railway systems. The BLITZDUCTORconnect can easily be installed in the SPD cabinet or in the cable termination rack at the appropriate zone boundary in accordance with the lightning protection zone concept. Additional functions such as non-interaction, remote monitoring and optical status detection ensure that the protection provided complies with the German railway guideline DB Ril. 819.0808.

With different product types and device versions, DEHN covers a wide range of requirements in the railway environment, for example signal circuits up to SIL level 4. In combination with DEHN Type 1 and Type 2 arresters, the interference voltages that occur in the railway environment are safely controlled as per RIL 819.0804. The condition monitoring of BLITZDUCTORconnect, and all DEHN arresters for use in the railway sector, can also be easily integrated into the signalling concept of Deutsche Bahn.

New developments require consistent and comprehensive safety concepts – from earthing to external lightning protection and equipotential bonding to surge protection and protection for the safe handling of electrical energy. The DEHN experts tell you about tailored protection solutions and a wide range of knowledge and services, such as the seminar offer of the DEHNacademy, testing services in the DEHN Test Centre, the DEHNconcept planning service and much more.

Visit DEHN at InnoTrans, the leading international trade fair for transport technology, in Berlin from 20 to 23/09/2022. At booth 320 in hall 21, the company will be presenting practical protection solutions for lightning and surge protection for the railway industry.
