DEHN protects PV systems – In a practice and future-oriented way
Be it kilowatt or megawatt systems, DEHN worldwide protects investments against interference caused by lightning currents and surges. At Intersolar in Munich, which will take place from 4 to 6 June, the company will present numerous innovations in the fields of surge protection, lightning protection / earthing and safety equipment. With DEHNcube, for example, DEHN offers a new concept which combines a number of benefits for photovoltaic systems in a single device.
The DEHNcombo YPV SCI combined arrester safely protects PV systems from surges caused by lightning interference. This surge protective device combines a type 1 lightning current arrester and a type 2 surge arrester in a single device. It incorporates a tried and tested Y circuit with patented SCI technology and takes up little space. DEHNcombo YPV SCI meets the requirements of the new CENELEC CLC/TS 50539-12 technical specification and of Supplement 5 of the German DIN EN 62305-3 standard. DEHNcombo YPV SCI is a compact, lightning current carrying combined arrester for the d.c. side of PV systems which can be used in small-sized and large-scale systems without additional backup fuse up to a short-circuit current of 1000 A. It is available for voltages of 600 V, 1,000 V and 1,500 V. DEHNcombo YPV SCI has a total discharge current of 12.5 kA (10/350 μs) and a low voltage protection level, thus ensuring coordination with terminal equipment.
The new DEHNcube YPV SCI surge arrester reliably protects the d.c. side of photovoltaic systems from surges caused by lightning interference. This new concept for the first time combines a number of benefits for PV systems in a single device. This type 2 surge arrester with IP65 degree of protection houses a tried and tested Y circuit with patented SCI technology and takes up little space. It is the first type 2 d.c. surge arrester which allows direct connection of inverters with one or two MPP trackers. It can be installed outside of enclosures and is thus ideally suited for protecting string inverters. DEHNcube with IP65 degree of protection is the simplest solution for retrofitting surge protective devices into PV systems.
Concentrating on the essential without compromising safety – this means for the protection of string inverters, that reliable products with economic benefits are required. The compact DEHNguard® YPV SCI type 2 arrester from the surge and lightning protection expert DEHN, which was specifically developed for string inverters, meets this customer requirement and has a total discharge current of 40 kA (8/20 μs). The overall performance of PV systems ranging from roof-mounted systems to large solar parks can be easily scaled via the number of string inverters. Thus, the surge protective devices must protect a high number of d.c. circuits. With a narrow width of 3 modules and a clamping range between 1.5 mm2 and 35 mm2, the mechanical design of DEHNguard® YPV SCI is ideally suited for protecting such inverters.
