Protection concepts for pipelines

Control external voltages

Pipelines often run along high-voltage transmission lines or railway lines. If the course is parallel, external stresses that occur can adversely affect the pipeline – material erosion and thus damage occurs.

When parts of the system are freely accessible or during maintenance work, external voltages often lead to high touch voltages. These are dangerous for people – serious, life-threatening injuries can occur.

Don't let it get that far. Talk to us. We will support you in your projects with extensive expertise – in the areas of oil and gas. We are looking forward to your challenges!

Impact of external voltages

01
Emergence and dangers

Sources of interference such as high-voltage transmission lines, electric railways or lightning strikes cause stray currents and electromagnetic fields. They are coupled via the ground and change the potential of the pipeline. This can lead to AC corrosion with material erosion.

External voltages endanger people and damage equipment and components.

02
High costs due to leaks

Leaks often cause enormous property and environmental damage – and these are expensive: extensive repairs to the pipeline, supply bottlenecks, recourse claims for oil spills and much more.

03
It doesn't have to be this way!

With our solutions and products, you can protect devices and components against temporary and stationary overvoltages and protect people from excessively high touch voltages.
