The challenge

Electric vehicles should always be available and charging equipment should work seamlessly. These are the demands customers place on modern mobility. They want to be able to rely on being able to charge their vehicle with confidence and safety at all times. Lightning and surges can paralyse the entire charging system and damage connected vehicles. This reason alone makes the use of high-quality surge arresters so important.

Standards such as IEC 60634-4-44 clause 443 and IEC 60364-7-722 and also the insurance industry (publication VDS 3471) prescribe the use of surge protection measures in charging systems.

Integrating the surge protective devices into wallboxes is the biggest challenge in practice given the limited space available. If an additional enclosure is required, this results in higher costs and detracts from the overall appearance of the building.

The solution

Hardy Barth relies on DEHNcord 3P. The Type 2 + Type 3 surge arrester offers reliable protection for the wallbox in the smallest of spaces. It can be easily mounted on the DIN rail. It can also be attached to the wall in various positions: upright, horizontal, at various angles, however the actual situation demands.

Different screw lugs allow even the smallest gap to be optimally utilised. Installation with double push-in technology is particularly practical and time-saving. This means that the arrester can be quickly connected using stub or feed-through wiring.

Monitoring can be performed via the visual status indication directly on the device. Thanks to the integrated remote signalling contact, the status can also be transmitted directly to the smart home control system or the control centre of the power supplier.
