Description of functions and system requirements for the Webapplication DEHNproject as well as for the other Webapplications provided under DEHNproject and for software available for download under DEHNproject (DEHNplan-Client-Software, DEHNplan Viewer, DEHNrisk with DEHNplan-light-Client-Software)

1. Introduction

This Specification of Services serves as the basis for the content, scope and nature of the Webapplication DEHNproject provided by DEHN SE, Hans-Dehn-Straße 1, 92318 Neumarkt, Germany (hereinafter "DEHN") as well as to the other Webapplications provided under DEHNproject and to software available for download under DEHNproject (DEHNplan-Client-Software, DEHNplan Viewer, DEHNrisk with DEHNplan-light-Client-Software). 

A common requirement for using the Webapplication DEHNproject as well as the other Webapplications provided under DEHNproject and the software available for download under DEHNproject is that Authorised Users must each have successfully registered a DEHN-Web-Account. Use of the DEHNplan-Client-Software, DEHNplan Viewer, DEHNrisk with DEHNplan-light-Client-Software also requires the relevant user to have authorisation to use the Customer's Webapplications-Account for the Webapplication DEHNproject.

This Specification of Services describes the key functions of the relevant Webapplication and the relevant downloadable software, as well as the system requirements necessary for its operation. The aim is to provide an overview of the capabilities and requirements of the Webapplications and the software.

 

2. Webapplication DEHNproject

2.1 Description of the functions of the Webapplication DEHNproject

The Webapplication DEHNproject is the central, cloud-based project and licensing platform for the other lightning protection planning tools provided under DEHNproject by DEHN (DEHNplan-Client-Software, DEHNplan Viewer and DEHNrisk with DEHNplan-light-Client-Software). The Webapplication DEHNproject is a convenient way for Authorised Users to launch the DEHNplan-Client-Software and the DEHNplan-light-Client-Software required for the Webapplication DEHNrisk, and to manage the data generated by these Webapplications and software centrally.

It is simple for the administrator of a DEHNproject-Account to invite additional employees of the Customer to collaborate. Once the invited individuals have successfully registered, they are given access to the project data that has been shared with them.

In addition to licence and user management, the Webapplication DEHNproject also enables comprehensive management of project data from all other Webapplications offered under the Webapplication DEHNproject and of project data generated by the DEHNplan-Client-Software. Project files from the respective tools be stored and organised centrally, and Authorised Users also have the option of uploading their own files and managing them within the platform. This creates a central data repository, which significantly simplifies access and collaboration within the Customer's team.

2.2 DEHNproject system requirements (minimum requirements)

  • An internet-capable end device installed with an operating system and a web browser, both of which must be marketable and up-to-date.
  • Web browser: Microsoft Edge (recommended).
  • An internet connection with a sufficient data transfer rate.

The Customer is responsible for ensuring that Authorised Users have a compatible IT environment in order to use the Webapplication DEHNproject.

 

3. DEHNplan-Client-Software

3.1 Description of the functions of DEHNplan-Client-Software

The DEHNplan-Client-Software to be installed locally, is a Windows application for designing and documenting earthing and external lightning protection systems (in accordance with IEC 62305, DIN 18014, NFPA 780). 

Users and licences are managed via the Webapplication DEHNproject (Start/Administration).

It is simple for the administrator of a DEHNplan-Account to invite additional employees of the Customer to use the service. Once the invited individuals have successfully registered and installed the DEHNplan-Client-Software, they can use the DEHNplan-Client-Software within the scope of the licences booked by the Customer. A further requirement is that the invited individuals must also be Authorised Users of the Webapplication DEHNproject.

The DEHNplan-Client-Software is offered under a concurrent licensing model. This allows, within the scope of the licences booked by the Customer, multiple Authorised Users of the Customer to make flexible and simultaneous use of the DEHNplan-Client-Software (= simultaneous use is limited to the number of Authorised Users corresponding to the number of licences purchased by the Customer). When the DEHNplan-Client-Software is launched, a licence is automatically reserved. Once the program has been closed, this licence is released and becomes available to other Authorised Users of the Customer.

The DEHNplan-Client-Software offers the following core functions to assist Authorised Users with technical design and verification of lightning protection systems:

  • 3D planning environment for modelling buildings and technical elements, and for manual and semi-automatic positioning of DEHN components.
  • Calculation and visualisation of the protected volume using the rolling sphere and mesh methods.
  • Calculation and visualisation of the separation distance based on nodal analysis.
  • Automatic generation of earthing and equipotential bonding systems. 
  • A live bill of materials of all DEHN products used, updated on an ongoing basis.
  • Comprehensive import and export functions (e.g. DWG, DXF, IFC, OBJ, DAE, PDF).
  • Cloud-based project management via the Webapplication DEHNproject.

DEHN provides technical support and customer service only during the published service hours. 

3.2 DEHNplan-Client-Software system requirements (minimum requirements)

  • An internet-capable end device with the performance capabilities set out below, on which one of the operating systems listed below and one of the web browsers listed below are installed, both of which must be marketable and up-to-date.
  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Windows 11

    Note: Cannot run within a Citrix solution or remote desktop environment

  • Minimum CPU requirement: CPU with a speed of 2.5–2.9 GHz (Recommended: CPU with at least 3 GHz)
  • Minimum RAM requirement: 8 GB RAM (Recommended: at least 32 GB RAM)
  • Screen resolution: Conventional 1920 x 1080 true colour display
  • Graphics card: 

    Minimum requirement: 1 GB GPU with OpenGL support

    Recommended: at least 4 GB GPU with OpenGL support

  • Minimum hard disk space requirement: 3 GB (Recommended: at least 10 GB hard disk space)
  • Pointing device: Compatible with MS mouse with middle mouse button or scroll wheel
  • Web browser: Microsoft Edge (recommended), Google Chrome
  • An internet connection with a sufficient data transfer rate.

The Customer is responsible for ensuring that Authorised Users have a compatible IT environment in order to use the DEHNplan-Client-Software.

 

4. Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer

4.1 Description of the functions of the Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer

The Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer is a browser-based tool for viewing, measuring and annotating DEHNplan-drawings created using the DEHNplan-Client-Software provided by DEHN. The Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer allows Authorised Users to open, review and annotate existing DEHNplan-projects in the web browser itself, without the need to install the DEHNplan-Client-Software locally.

Users and licences are managed via the Webapplication DEHNproject (Start/Administration).

It is simple for the administrator of the Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer to invite other employees of the Customer to use the application. Once the invited individuals have successfully registered, they can use the Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer within the scope of the licences booked by the Customer. A further requirement is that the invited individuals must also be Authorised Users of the Webapplication DEHNproject. The available storage space for the Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer is determined by the licences booked by the Customer.

The Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer is offered under a concurrent licensing model. This allows, within the scope of the licences booked by the Customer, multiple Authorised Users of the Customer to make flexible and simultaneous use of the Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer (= simultaneous use is limited to the number of Authorised Users corresponding to the number of licences booked by the Customer).

The following functions are available:

  • Displaying of DEHNplan-drawings in the web browser
  • Measurement functions within the DEHNplan-drawing
  • Annotating DEHNplan-drawings with text and attaching images or PDF documents

Annotations made in the DEHNplan Viewer (text/image/PDF attachments) are also available in the corresponding DEHNplan-drawing in the DEHNplan-Client-Software once they have been saved. Conversely, annotations (text/image/PDF attachments) made in the DEHNplan-drawing within the DEHNplan-Client-Software are also available in the DEHNplan Viewer. Use of the DEHNplan-Client-Software itself is not included within the scope of the licence for the Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer.

DEHN provides technical support and customer service only during the published service hours.

4.2 Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer system requirements (minimum requirements)

  • An internet-capable end device installed with an operating system and a web browser, both of which must be marketable and up-to-date.
  • An internet connection with a sufficient data transfer rate.
  • Display size: at least 8 inches (Recommended: at least 10 inches).

The Customer is responsible for ensuring that Authorised Users have a compatible IT environment in order to use the Webapplication DEHNplan Viewer.

 

4. Webapplication DEHNrisk and DEHNplan-light-Client-Software

4.1 Description of the functions of the Webapplication DEHNrisk and DEHNplan-light-Client-Software

The Webapplication DEHNrisk , together with the DEHNplan-light-Client-Software to be installed locally, is a Windows application which can be used to create risk analyses for lightning and surge protection. 

Users and licences are managed via the Webapplication DEHNproject (Start/Administration).

It is simple for the administrator of a DEHNrisk-Account to invite additional employees of the Customer to use the application. Once the invited individuals have successfully registered and installed the DEHNplan-light-Client-Software, they can use the Webapplication DEHNrisk within the scope of the licences booked by the Customer. A further requirement is that the invited individuals must also be Authorised Users of the Webapplication DEHNproject.

The Webapplication DEHNrisk and DEHNrisk-light-Client-Software are offered under a concurrent licensing model. The following functions are available:

  • Detailed risk analysis for lightning and surge protection based on current national and international standards:
    • IEC 62305-2:2024 
    • EN IEC 62305-2:2024 
    • BS EN IEC 62305-2:2024
    • DIN EN IEC 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2):2026-02
    • ČSN EN IEC 62305-2, third edition
  • Identification and assessment of potential hazards, taking into account location, type of use and structural characteristics
  • Automated calculation of user-defined risk parameters
  • Graphical and technical support in selecting appropriate protection measures. 
  • Automatically generated, comprehensive documentation options in Word and PDF formats.
  • The Webapplication DEHNrisk is partly web-based; to determine equivalent collection areas, the Webapplication DEHNrisk also uses the DEHNplan-light-Client-Software, which must be installed locally.
  • Included DEHNplan-light-Client-Software: 

    3D CAD lightning protection planning application (to be installed locally) with a limited range of functions compared to the full version of the DEHNplan-Client-Software. This light version of the DEHNplan-Client-Software enables use of 3D building models to calculate equivalent collection areas. The scope of the DEHNplan-light-Client-Software is limited to the calculations of equivalent collection areas required for risk analysis. Note: Additional modules, for example for planning external lightning protection, are only included in the full version of the DEHNplan-Client-Software, for which licence packages for the DEHNplan-Client-Software must be purchased separately.

4.2 Webapplication DEHNrisk and DEHNplan-light-Client-Software system requirements (minimum requirements)

  • An internet-capable end device with the performance capabilities set out below, on which one of the operating systems listed below and a conventional web browser are installed, both of which must be marketable and up-to-date.
  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Windows 11

5. General information and clarifications

Order of precedence and references

This Specification of Services is intended to provide a technical classification of the Webapplication and downloadable software referred to herein. To use the Webapplications and the downloadable software, the Terms of Use for the respective Webapplication and for the respective downloadable software must be accepted. In the event of any inconsistencies between this Specification of Services and the respective Terms of Use, the respective Terms of Use shall take precedence in accordance with the order of priority set out in the Terms of Use. 

Information on standards and functionality

References to standards and file formats are provided for technical classification purposes and do not constitute a guarantee of complete, permanently up-to-date or universally applicable coverage. The Webapplications and downloadable software cited here are intended solely as a planning tool for the Customer's business operations and are no substitute for independent inspection and critical assessment by the Customer and its employees regarding the correct and complete planning of measures. Planning documents produced using the Webapplications and the downloadable software cited here must be adapted to the actual existing conditions, requirements and restrictions before execution. The necessary expert assessment as well as the professional design and dimensioning in the individual case are the sole responsibility of the Customer. 

System requirements and modifications

The system requirements listed are minimum requirements and may change as the services are further developed. The Customer is responsible for ensuring that Authorised Users have a compatible IT environment in order to use the respective Webapplication.

More powerful hardware may be required for large projects. The Webapplications and the downloadable software are continuously updated to meet the latest technical and normative requirements. A valid licence for the respective Webapplication or the respective downloadable software is required for each use.
