Surge protection for residential buildings

As modern residential buildings are becoming increasingly electric, surge protection is particularly important. An effective surge protection concept protects electrical and electronic systems and devices from damage caused by excessive transient voltages. The dangerous interference energy is gradually reduced to a harmless level. This means that the photovoltaic system, the charging infrastructure for electric cars and the energy management system are securely protected.

The right way to standard-compliant surge protection for residential buildings

According to IEC 62305-3, lightning equipotential bonding is mandatory for power supply and data lines. The installation location for the lightning and surge protection arresters should be selected as close as possible to the entrance point into the building.

An external lightning protection system influences both the lightning and surge protection concept and the requirements for the earthing system. For the earthing system, also consider the connection lugs for connecting the external lightning protection system.

In addition, you must also use lightning current arresters for all incoming electrical data lines and therefore also for Internet, telephone and broadband cable lines in order to fulfil the requirement for lightning equipotential bonding in accordance with IEC 62305-3. In addition, protect the most important components in modern and smart buildings, such as the photovoltaic system, the charging infrastructure for electric cars, the heat pump and all other end devices. Further protective devices are recommended if the cable length between the surge protective device and the terminal equipment to be protected exceeds 10 m

Here you will find the right products for a standard-compliant surge protection concept for residential buildings.
