DEHNsphere Service Description
Function description and system requirements for the DEHNsphere web application (free standard version) and for the additional functions made available within DEHNsphere following the purchase of fee-based licence packages (paid version), as well as for the integration of smart DEHN devices
1. Introduction
The following specification serves as the basis for the contents, scope and nature of the DEHNsphere web application (free standard version) provided by DEHN SE, Hans-Dehn-Straße 1, 92318 Neumarkt, Germany (hereinafter "DEHN") and for the other functions provided under DEHNsphere after purchasing fee-based licence packages (paid version), including the integration of smart DEHN devices compatible with DEHNsphere.
At present, only the DEHNdetect (lightning current measuring system) product is compatible with DEHNsphere as a smart DEHN device; smart DEHN devices compatible with DEHNSphere are referred to hereinafter as "device(s)" or "smart DEHN device(s)". Other smart DEHN devices may be added in future.
In order to use the DEHNsphere web application, authorised users must each have successfully registered a DEHN web account and the customer must have been granted access to use DEHNsphere. Use is reserved for businesses in accordance with Section 14 of the German Civil Code (BGB). The user agreement is concluded with the customer in their capacity as a business entity, and not with the customer's individual employees or guests.
Following successful registration and initial login to the DEHNsphere web application, the customer has access to the free standard version described in this specification. The use of additional functions provided under DEHNsphere additionally requires the purchase of fee-based licence packages by the customer (paid version).
This specification describes the main functions of the DEHNsphere web application, the system requirements necessary for its operation, the licence model, as well as data transmission and data access. The aim is to provide an overview of the capabilities and requirements of the web application.
2. DEHNsphere web application
2.1 DEHNsphere web application function description
The DEHNsphere web application is DEHN's central, cloud-based IoT platform for connecting, managing and monitoring smart DEHN devices. Authorised users can use the DEHNsphere web application to integrate and manage devices on the DEHNsphere platform on behalf of the customer, structure the associated systems (assets, e.g. wind turbines) and sites (facilities), and view and evaluate the data transmitted by the devices. The DEHNsphere web application is provided solely as a web-based application; local installation is not required and is not intended.
The web application administrator of a DEHNsphere web application account (hereinafter also referred to in this specification as the "customer administrator") has the ability to authorise additional employees of the customer to use DEHNsphere or to invite additional persons for temporary use as guests. Following successful activation of a role, the person concerned receives access in accordance with the scope of the assigned role. The following roles are available in the DEHNsphere web application:
- Customer administrator (full user, permissions and licence management)
- Authorised user (access to functions with read and write permissions within the assigned scope)
- Guest (read-only access) available.
Once the customer has successfully registered and logged in to the DEHNsphere web application for the first time, they will have access to the free standard version, which includes the functions for connected devices as specifically described in this specification for the standard version.
In addition, the DEHNsphere web application enables the management and allocation of fee-based licence packages purchased by the customer (see section 4). Note: The use of additional functions provided under DEHNsphere and described in this specification specifically for the paid version additionally requires the purchase of fee-based licence packages by the customer.
DEHN provides technical support and customer service only during the published service hours.
2.2 DEHNsphere system requirements (minimum requirements)
- An internet-enabled device running a current, mainstream operating system and web browser.
- An internet connection with a sufficient data transfer rate.
The customer is responsible for ensuring that authorised users have a compatible IT environment in order to use the DEHNsphere web application.
3. Integration of smart DEHN devices
3.1 Description of functions in device integration
The devices record measurement and event data (payload data) on the monitored system and transmit this to the DEHNsphere cloud via the device's cloud connection. The data transmitted to the DEHNsphere cloud is stored regardless of whether the free standard version or a paid version is used. However, in the paid version the customer can use the transmitted data with additional functions.
Currently, only the DEHNdetect product (lightning current measuring system) is compatible with the DEHNsphere web application.
For integrated devices, the following functions are available in the free standard version of the DEHNsphere web application:
- Registration and management of the device in DEHNsphere.
- Configuration of the device and provision of security-related device updates.
- Transmission and storage of the measurement and event data recorded by the device.
- Notifications regarding events and device statuses without event details.
- Access to the customer's stored measurement and event data in accordance with section 5.
If a fee-based licence (paid version) has been purchased for an integrated device, the following additional functions provided under DEHNsphere are also available for that device:
- Display and evaluation of events in the web interface.
- Calculation and updating of condition parameters (asset metrics) for the linked system on the basis of measurement and event data.
- Classification of events and assignment to system components (e.g. rotor blades).
- Provision of functional and feature updates for the device.
For devices without a valid licence, the linked system in DEHNsphere indicates that it is currently not being actively monitored via the linked device.
3.2 Requirements for integration (minimum requirements)
- At least one operational device that is assigned to the customer and registered in DEHNsphere.
- Connection of the device to the DEHNsphere cloud via an internet connection with a sufficient data transfer rate.
It is the customer's responsibility to ensure connectivity at the system location and a compatible IT environment, unless a separate contract has been agreed with DEHN for a connectivity solution. The installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment itself are not covered by this specification; the relevant product documentation and agreements apply.
3.3 Differences between the standard and paid versions
The following overview summarises which functions are included in the free standard version and which are included in the paid version (for each device with a fee-based licence).
Version comparison table
4. Fee-based licence model (paid version)
The functional scope of the fee-based version requires a valid licence to be purchased for each device. Licence packages are purchased and managed via the central licence management system of the DEHN customer portal; licences are assigned to devices by the customer administrator within DEHNsphere for each device (serial number). A licence must be purchased for each device. Central licence management currently exclusively supports licences for the DEHNdetect product (lightning current measuring system).
The following licence types are available:
DEHNsphere Licenses
Prior to the expiry of a licence, the customer will be sent a reminder regarding the expiry within the DEHNsphere web application.
Following termination of the trial period, each device that was previously covered by the free trial period requires a valid fee-based annual licence in order to continue using the scope of functions of the paid version.
Without a valid fee-based annual licence, only the functions available in the free standard version can be used. Stored measurement and event data is retained, but can only be accessed again within the scope of the paid version's functions following the purchase of a fee-based annual licence.
5. Data transmission and data access
Integrated devices transmit measurement and event data (payload data) as well as configuration and status data to the DEHNsphere cloud. The overview below describes the data categories, broken down into the standard version and the paid version (the specific data categories and data formats for each device are set out in the interface documentation following this overview):
Data Handling
The customer can access the measurement and event data stored for their devices regardless of the licence status of the respective device. Access is provided free of charge via a documented REST interface (machine-readable data format). The associated interface documentation is linked in the logged-in area of the DEHNsphere web application; the customer can independently retrieve the stored raw data using this documentation.
Data access pursuant to this section does not cover the results calculated by DEHNsphere from the measurement and event data (in particular condition parameters and analysis results); these form part of the scope of functions of the paid version exclusively (see sections 3.1 and 3.3).
6. General information and clarifications
Order of precedence and references
This specification provides a technical classification of the DEHNsphere web application (free standard version) and the additional functions provided under DEHNsphere following the purchase of fee-based licence packages (paid version), as well as the respective integration of smart DEHN devices compatible with the DEHNsphere web application. Use of the DEHNsphere web application and the additional functions provided under DEHNsphere following the purchase of licence packages is subject to acceptance of the applicable terms of use. In the event of any inconsistencies between this specification and the respective terms of use, the respective terms of use shall take precedence in the order of precedence specified therein.
Intended use and information functionality
The evaluations carried out via the DEHNsphere web application and via the additional functions provided under DEHNsphere following the purchase of fee-based licence packages are exclusively intended as assistance / support for the customer's business operations and are no substitute for independent inspection and critical assessment by the customer and its employees to ensure the smart DEHN devices have measured and recorded the data correctly and completely. Proper and regular maintenance of installations fitted with a smart DEHN device is the sole responsibility of the customer and/or owner and/or operator of the installations and must be carried out independently of the data measured and recorded by a smart DEHN device. The decision to carry out unscheduled inspections of installations fitted with a smart DEHN device rests solely with the customer and/or the owner and/or operator of the installations, and this decision must be made independently of the data measured and recorded by a smart DEHN device. The Services do not relieve the customer and/or the owner and/or the operator of the installations of the responsibility for its installations fitted with a smart DEHN device. A notice in the DEHNsphere web application indicating that a system is not actively monitored does not release the customer and/or owner and/or operator of a system from their own inspection and maintenance obligations.
System requirements and modifications
The system requirements listed are minimum requirements and may change as the software is further developed. The DEHNsphere web application and the additional functions provided under DEHNsphere following the purchase of fee-based licence packages are continuously updated to comply with current technical and normative requirements. A valid fee-based licence is required to access the range of functions of the paid version. The customer is solely responsible for ensuring that authorised users have a compatible IT environment.
Territorial scope
The DEHNsphere web application and the additional functions provided under DEHNsphere following the purchase of fee-based licence packages are currently provided for customers with a registered office in the European Union.
