AlpTransit Gotthard
The AlpTransit Gotthard tunnel is the most important transit axis for the north–south connection through Switzerland. A reliable power supply is vital in this case.
High-quality arresters from DEHN support the reliable operation of one of the most important transit routes in Europe.

The challenge
A reliable power supply is crucial for the safe operation of the tunnel. We can't afford to have it compromised by lightning currents or surges.
In this system, the entire 50 Hz power supply must be protected. From the main distribution boards to the 176 cross passages.
In view of the high quality requirements, the product decision was made in favour of DEHN's energy-coordinated arresters.
The solution
The protection concept covers the entire power supply.
Components include communication, lighting, control, safety systems such as axle counters and points signals as well as the ETCS (European Train Control System) radio signal. The availability of the power supply protected by DEHN is 99.999996%. This equates to tier 4 classification.
The modular DEHNbloc M arrester with Radax flow spark gap technology protects against partial lightning currents. The associated follow current limitation offers follow current disconnection selectivity even with very small system fuses. Energy coordination with the downstream DEHNguard down conductors is ensured without additional cable lengths. All arresters in the Red/Line family offer a remote signalling output to signal operational readiness to the control centre.
