Surge protection without a backup fuse: an easy way to increase safety.

DEHN ACI with integrated overcurrent protection: less planning, more space, greater operational safety.

Surge protection can be provided without an external backup fuse. DEHN ACI integrates overcurrent protection into the SPD itself – so there's no need for an external backup fuse.

Less effort. Reduced power losses. Greater operational safety.

Überspannungsschutz ohne Vorsicherung

How surge protection without a backup fuse works

Conventional protection concepts and integrated solutions differ not only in their design, but in their behaviour. DEHN ACI technology interrupts fault currents within the SPD itself, without an external backup fuse and with no time delay.

Advantages: More safety, less effort

Keine Schutzlücke

No protection gaps

Both small and large fault currents are interrupted faster than any external fuse could manage.

Konstant niedriger Schutzpegel

Constantly low protection level

The protection level stays constantly below 1.5 kV, providing optimum protection for terminal equipment.

Weniger Planungsaufwand

Easier planning

No selectivity coordination. The question of the backup fuse becomes redundant.

Einfache Installation

Easy installation

Fewer components, less wiring, reduced space requirements.

Höhere Betriebssicherheit

Increased operational safety

No leakage currents caused by ageing and stable performance even in dynamic grids.

ACI

Ideal for the DIN rail
Less space. Less wiring. Less effort.

In distribution boards, every module space counts. Conventional protection concepts often require additional backup fuses and wiring, which increases the space required on the DIN rail and makes planning and installation more complex.
DEHN ACI integrates overcurrent protection into the SPD itself. There is no need for separate fuses or additional holders. This leaves more space in the distribution board and makes installation significantly simpler.

Note regarding Type 2 SPDs: Particularly in the case of Type 2 arresters on the DIN rail, this results in a compact solution with a consistently low voltage protection level and reduced planning effort.

Technology that specifically eliminates vulnerabilities

Conventional protection concepts require an external backup fuse. This results in additional components, more wiring and more complex coordination. DEHN's ACI technology takes a different approach: the overcurrent protection is integrated into the SPD itself, eliminating typical challenges such as the need to consider selectivity.

The following characteristics illustrate how this approach works in practice.

Icon Integrated Protection

Integrated overcurrent protection

An external backup fuse is no longer required, as a high-performance switching unit is integrated into the SPD.

icon Informationstechnik sichern

Constantly low protection level

The voltage protection level (UP) always less than 1.5 kV. This is a key advantage, as external backup fuses can increase the effective level of protection.

icon Überspannungsschutz

Zero leakage current and high TOV withstand

The ACI switching unit provides galvanic isolation under normal operating conditions. So there are no leakage currents and no ageing of the surge protection, for example of the varistor. ACI devices can withstand temporary overvoltages (TOVs) of up to 440 V.

ACI technology is the most efficient solution in many applications. However, it must be designed correctly.
