The challenge

Container battery storage systems store the electricity generated by photovoltaic systems and wind turbines in modern lithium-ion cells and release it again when required. They also support grid stability through decentralised storage.

In order to optimally protect the high-class technologies in the storage container, a comprehensive overall lightning and surge protection system is required. This is a particularly challenging task since the deployment locations and operating conditions of the container may significantly vary due to its mobile design and worldwide use.

The solution

To protect the core components of the battery storage system, for example the grid connection, power electronics, module racks and communication infrastructure, VARTA Storage relies on lightning and surge protection from DEHN.

On the one hand, this is achieved with high-performance lightning and surge arresters such as DEHNventil for power supply systems.

On the other hand, by means of arresters that are specially customised for use in wireless applications for device and antenna interfaces in coaxial connection technology and for two-wire telecommunications and signal lines (e.g. SDSL). These include products such as DEHNgate, Blitzductor XT and DEHNrapid LSA.
