The challenge

INSYS icom develops intelligent hardware and software solutions that can be used to monitor machines and systems remotely and transmit operating data. The aim of the game is to minimise unscheduled downtimes of systems and machines – predictive maintenance.

However, the increasing number and sensitivity of electronic devices and systems, widescale networking and decreasing signal levels increase the risk of surge damage in power grids. Damage to electronic components is often associated with long-lasting and costly interruptions to operations. This is an aspect that must be prevented, especially in safety-critical power grids.

The solution

INSYS relies on a powerful protection solution from DEHN for the reliable availability of all components. Type 1 and Type 2 combined arresters such as DEHNshield FM are used for the incoming power supply lines. BLITZDUCTOR XT protects the interfaces for information and communication.

The surge protective devices in the predictive maintenance concept from INSYS and DEHN are monitored simply and effectively via the DEHNrecord Alert system, which constantly monitors the status of the arresters. The app quickly tells you if all the devices are working seamlessly.

All signal statuses are reported directly via MODBUS TCP/RTU via a Smart IoT Gateway from INSYS icom and securely forwarded to the control room via VPN. In the event of a failure, all the necessary data is available and replacement modules can be easily selected and quickly exchanged. This means more efficient and cost-effective maintenance and service operations.
