Selection of surge protective devices with the help of the DEHNselect SPD selection software in the DEHNsupport Toolbox or via conventional selection means

Scope of service

1. Flow chart of electrical installation including relevant parts lists for the required surge protective devices (without any accessories which may be necessary, e.g. additional arrester backup fuses)
2. Optional: Preparation of a tender specification
3. Optional: Provision of product data sheets and installation instructions

Basic principle

If the documentation for a building requiring lightning protection measures is non-existent or incomplete, it is wise for the planner to conduct a site survey as the basis for planning the lightning protection system, including the air-termination system and its protected volume. A face-to face meeting with the client provides the opportunity to elicit his expectations concerning the planning of lightning protection measures and explain possible solutions.

Basic principle

Correct installation of lightning protection systems as planned based on product-specific installation requirements for the lightning protection components used requires surveillance and documentation of the installation process. This allows to detect installation errors and initiate their elimination.

Design services performed

• Design of external lightning protection systems (without earth-termination systems) with isolated air-termination systems and down conductors

or

• Design of external lightning protection systems (without earth-termination systems) with non-isolated air-termination systems and down conductors

or

• Design of external lightning protection systems (without earth-termination systems) with isolated and non-isolated air-termination systems and down conductors

and / or

• Design of earth-termination systems for external lightning protection systems

Service description

1. Coordination between the principal and the contractor at the construction site
2. Precise adaptation of the above mentioned design services to the local conditions
3. Preparation of a surveillance documentation (daily construction records) including photos and comments

Scope of service

1. Daily construction records including photos and description of the installation performed
2. Precise adaptation of the design documents (drawings, bills of material) to the actual installation of the lightning protection system

Service description

1. Dimensioning of the air-termination systems of the lightning protection system (LPS) according to the selected class of LPS using the rolling sphere method in line with subclause 5.3.3 of DIN EN 62305-3 or IEC 62305-3 taking account of the wind loads according to EUROCODE 1
2. Dimensioning of the down conductors of the lightning protection system (LPS) according to the selected class of LPS
3. Drawings of the air-termination systems and down conductors of the building / installation to be protected
4. Design of the protected volume of the air-termination systems (2D or 3D depending on the provided data format of the building / installation to be protected)
5. Preparation of a bill of material of the lightning protection components
6. Calculation of the separation distance according to subclause 6.3 of DIN EN 62305-3 or IEC 62305-3
7. Optional: Fee-based design of the earth-termination system for external lightning protection systems
8. Optional: Fee-based planning of surge protection measures

1. Description of the lightning protection concept / lightning protection solution including explanation of the solution principles and boundary conditions which may have to be observed for design
2. Drawings of the roof view and protected volumes (2D or 3D depending on the provided data format of the building / installation to be protected)

4. Bill of material (including material quotation in case of customer conditions for lightning protection material)
5. Product data sheets, manufacturer’s declarations and installation instructions (if any) of the components used for design
6. Optional: Free tender specifications of the components used for design
