Calculation of earthing systems of transformer stations

Basic principle

DIN EN 50522 (VDE 0101-2):2011-11 part 2 in the version valid at the time of placing the order;
DIN VDE 0100 part 410, part 540 in the version valid at the time of placing the order;
DIN VDE 0185-305-3 in the version valid at the time of placing the order;
DIN 18014 in the version valid at the time of placing the order;
DIN VDE 0151 in the version valid at the time of placing the order;
DIN VDE 0141 in the version valid at the time of placing the order;

(Should at the time of placing the order any of the above-mentioned standards be in a period of transition between two versions, the latest version will apply.)
(In the case of IEC standards, there is no transition period between two -versions.)

Creation of CAD drawings of structures for designing lightning protection systems

Basic principle

For designing lightning protection systems and the protected volume of the air-termination systems, the current building stock must be displayed to scale in a CAD file. If neither 2D nor 3D CAD files are available when ordering the design of a lightning protection system, they can be redrawn based on existing paper drawings and / or pixel scans of as-completed drawings (2D or 3D drawings).

  1. Drawings of the building / installation to be protected in non-editable electronic format or paper form
  2. Optional: a fee-based site survey / project meeting

Scope of service

Design of a surge protection concept

Basic principle

DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3) in the version valid at the time of placing the order;

DIN VDE 0100-443 (VDE 0100-443) in the version valid at the time of placing the order;

DIN VDE 0100-712 (VDE 0100-712) in the version valid at the time of placing the order;

(Should at the time of placing the order any of the above-mentioned standards be in a period of transition between two versions, the latest version will apply.)

Scope of service

  2. Optional: Preparation of a tender specification
  3. Optional: Provision of product data sheets and installation instructions

Lightning protection risk management

Basic principle

Prerequisites

Service description

Risk management according to DIN EN 62305-2 or IEC 62305-2 based on the input parameters given by the customers or generated together with the customer

Scope of service

  1. Definition of the relevant structure and its properties
  2. Definition of all types of loss for the relevant structure and the associated risks R1, R2, R3 and R4
  3. Assessment of the risk for each type of loss selected
  4. Assessment of the need for protection by comparing the selected risks (R1, R2 and R3) for a structure with the tolerable risk RT
  5. When selecting R4: Assessment of the economic efficiency of the protection measures by comparing the costs of a total loss with and without protection measures

Travel expenses for site survey / project meeting

Basic principle

If the documentation for a building requiring lightning protection measures is non-existent or incomplete, it is wise for the planner to conduct a site survey as the basis for planning the lightning protection system, including the air-termination system and its protected volume. A face-to face meeting with the client provides the opportunity to elicit his expectations concerning the planning of lightning protection measures and explain possible solutions.

  1. The client’s decision maker must participate in the meeting
  2. Accessibility of the site to be inspected
  3. Permission to take photographs
  4. Information about the personal protective equipment required

Basic principle

This allows to detect installation errors and initiate their elimination.

Checking whether the lightning protection system installed corresponds to the design documents

Basic principle

Correct installation of lightning protection systems as planned based on product-specific installation requirements for the lightning protection components used (decisive for the proper operation of the lightning protection system). Checking whether the lightning protection system installed corresponds to the design documents is a necessary prerequisite for testing and maintaining the lightning protection system.
