The lightning current is distributed in a controlled fashion over a large area through a low-impedance, interconnected earthing system, so that measures for the protection of people are ensured and dangerous surges can be reduced. Step and touch voltages that are dangerous to people are prevented through additional potential control in areas where people may be located.
